In the midst of this crazy Presidential election, I’m thrilled to say that the SEMGTR Election should be uneventful and lack controversy. Thanks to all of you who read and voted on the new bylaws, our election should be blissfully simple. The new board will consist of 3 elected members. The nominating committee has presented the names for your consideration, and we’ll be sending out an email ballot within the next few days; no campaign ads, no mud slinging!
As you probably surmised from the paragraph above, the new bylaws have been approved by a quorum vote. That said, let’s get ready to turn this club around!
Our planning meeting is set for November 12 and we need folks to host events. From the survey we sent last month, our members would like some Tech Sessions. If you have a topic you’d like to learn or teach about, please let me know. If you have an idea for a fun event, go ahead and volunteer. For our party folks, if you’d like to host a party, we’d love to let you.
Please let me know what type of event you’d like to host by Nov. 11, 2016.

One of the things we pride ourselves on within the SEMGTR is the ability to frequently adapt to the changing needs and wants of our membership. It’s this open minded attitude that has allowed the club to weather some tough years. We sent out an email survey a few weeks back, and the results were quite interesting. We discovered that the #1 reason people join the club is to socialize with other MG people. We also learned that Tech info, runs, and gatherings were most important, with shows running a bit behind. Lastly, we asked for volunteers for various areas. While we had a several members volunteer for hosting events, writing articles, and event helpers, we did not have a single volunteer to run for a board position. This is our inherent problem every year and the reason for our brainstorming meeting last month. Our bylaws list the following board positions: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Editor, Registrar, and Past President. That doesn’t take into consideration the newer unofficial position of Webmaster/Social Media. While we have maintained our membership numbers over the past few years despite heavy losses, our core active group is not large enough to support 7 board positions plus the webmaster.
The brainstorming meeting was attended by a large group of consistently active members along with our newest club member. During this lively meeting, we discussed the survey results and the direction for the future. The overwhelming consensus was to consider continuing as a social and driving club. Most members felt that with the widespread information to be found online, the “register” part of our duties was somewhat redundant and the source of a lot of additional work. If we adjust to the current needs of the members, we could potentially drop down to a 3 member board. Within that board would be a Treasurer, Editor, and Board Chair /President. Currently, the treasurer, editor, and registrar have the largest job descriptions. We currently have a willing editor (thanks Geoff!) and potential Treasurer. With the suggested changes, the positions of Registrar, Secretary, and Vice President would be eliminated. We are presently putting together an exploratory committee to look into de-formalizing and amending the bylaws.
As the bylaws currently stand, the positions of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Registrar would need to be filled this year. In the interest of following the bylaws, we have put together a nominating committee for 2016.

If you would like to run for a board position, please contact a member of the nominating committee during the month of September. Geoff will be out of town, but Andria and Jim will both be available. Please keep in mind that you may not nominate another member without their permission.

I’d like to thank everyone who took their time to participate in the survey and the brainstorming meeting. We will continue working to honor the original spirit upon which the club was founded. In the words of one of our founders, “just get together, have fun, have a tech session occasionally, talk cars, kick tyres, drive a little… and press on regardless… OH, I left out FOOD… yes occasionally have a little BBQ, finger food, pot of chili… etc."

Hey you! Yes you… the one who hasn’t had the MG out in over a month. Don’t you think it’s time to get that baby on the road. If you’re local to Atlanta, maybe you should think about getting involved in the club. Even if you’re not local to Atlanta, get involved in the club. This group doesn’t run itself you know.
Here’s the situation:
Have we hit a few setbacks this last few years? Yes, we have.
Do we still have a nice big MG family? Yes, we do.
Are we appealing to new members? Yes, we are.
Will our current board stay on forever? No, they won't.
Do we need more volunteers to keep things going? Yes, we do.
With the losses of our Editor and Vice President this last year, our current core group is stretched pretty thin. In order to continue in the right direction, we’re going to need some folks to step up and get involved. Whether you’re interested in writing an article for the newsletter, planning an event, or running for a position on the board, this is definitely the time to jump in and help. Monday, July 4th
MG's for the Parade: The gathering time is set for 8:00 AM with the parade kickingoff at 9:00 AM sharp. It generally takes about an hour to traverse the distance of about 1.5 miles. We will gather at the All Saints Catholic Church on Mt Vernon Highway at the intersection of Jett Ferry.
After the parade, members of the Peachtree, the Southeast MG T Registry and our guests are invited for a BarBQ lunch at the home of Paul and Barbara Flexner, 4930 N. Peachtree Road, Dunwoody. Participants are asked to bring a side dish or dessert that is non-dairy and vegan (i.e., no meat, pork or shell fish). Dishes may be dropped off at the Flexner’s in advance of the parade. Spouses may also be dropped off at the Flexner’s early and will go to the parade in a separate car to watch the MG’s at the end of the parade.

This is one of the most fun events we do! Make sure to bring the kids and grandkids if you’ve got ‘em.
In a nutshell, we set up an MG friendly obstacle / carnival game course. As the driver uses their skills to drive the course, the navigator takes on carnival like tasks. Teams are scored on skill and speed. We always have lots of willing navigators, so come one, come all.
The club will provide Fried Chicken and drinks for everyone. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share. We need to know you’re coming so we order enough food.
The meeting will be held around 1:00 after lunch.
