Greetings fellow SEMGTR Member,
I hope you had a wonderful holiday season. With the New Year surrounding us, I’d like to thank you for being a part of this entertaining and sometimes crazy MG club.
This year, we have some new faces on our board of officers. I’ve had the pleasure of listening to some fresh perspectives, and we are working hard to create a club experience that gives value to your Register Membership.
First, we understand that as a Register, our members are widely dispersed. We will be working hard to bring you valuable information pertinent to your area. We’d like to hear about your trusty mechanics, local events, and other information useful to members who may be close by.
Next, we know that our local members want great events that get their cars on the road. We’ve worked hard to create a 2016 Calendar with a balanced mix of shows, runs, parties, and tech sessions. In this mailing, we have included a copy of the calendar so you won’t miss a minute of the fun!
We will also be changing things up a bit this year. Members will be receiving the full mgTalk from our editor, Geoff Kent, every other month. On the alternate months, look for an event update from our Vice President, George Haldane. He'll be sending out the coming events as well as past event write ups with pictures. These news updates will all be sent via email so please make sure we have your current email address. To insure that you continue receiving club information, take a minute to check your email spam folder. If you see anything with the last part of the address @semgtr.org, make sure to mark it “not spam” so future emails will end up safely in your inbox.
Finally, if you haven’t visited our website lately, you’re missing out on the most up to date information available. At www.semgtr.org you’ll find event information, pictures, articles, tech links, etc. With all of the great tools we have available, I hope you’ll take advantage of your 2016 SEMGTR Membership.
Well, the fox is now happily amongst the hens. Following the by-law change of a year ago, allowing orphan car owners into the Register, a piece of Thames Ditton ‘Bespoke’ has infiltrated the rascals from Abingdon, and an AC owner is Editor of the Newsletter.
One reason for this is that, being spread across several Southern States, the membership of the Registry is tricky to manage. Responsibility for organization falls, inevitably upon an agglomeration of members, and the largest group is in Atlanta. The Atlanta ‘T’ members are getting a bit weary, and an AC looks rather like a ‘T’ car, so Pat and I were naturally absorbed.
So, I was elected Newsletter Editor - and why not. Apart from looking something like my car and sharing many of its parts, the Abingdon cars are strange to me, but the style of the cars and the character and enthusiasm of their owners is totally familiar, and it is good to be among kindred spirits.
Now, what about you? Being in Atlanta ensures a concentration of MG activity, but the newsletter is about all the members’ cars, especially those at the ‘outer arm of the Galaxy’. How else can we connect if not via personal contact and the newsletter. Unlike cosy Britain, the southern states are HUGE, and I am constantly impressed by the distances folks travel to the GOF, so why isn’t the newsletter used more by the membership? It’s time we heard from you all, so I want the following from you: A picture of you, with your car, and a little about yourselves - when you got your car and what you have done with it recently. If the car is a pile of parts, hold a bit of it and smile, optimistically. The ongoing objective is to create a picture directory, for members only, so please contribute. I shall only have to rattle your cage if I don’t hear from you. Please send your contribution to the Editor’s e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org
Meanwhile, I shall start the ball rolling with something about Pat and me.
Join us January 30 at 5:00 for a fantastic 2 part event!
First, The Minute To Win It Competition
We’re staying in out of the cold, so were going to have a little indoor entertainment via “The Minute To Win It" Competition. We'll divide into teams for this fast paced lunacy! Simple tasks like stacking cups become challenging when timed!
Second, The BBQ and Dessert Cook Off
Bring your tastiest BBQ dish like ribs, pulled pork, wings and see how you rank! Like the sweet stuff instead? We're judging all types of dessert. We’ll award prizes for the best BBQ AND the best Dessert. Feel free to bring one or both to enter. The club will provide the drinks and sides.
